Piriformis Syndrome

The piriformis muscles lie deep to the larger gluteal muscles in the hip region. They can easily become short and tight, causing pain the local area, and down the back of the leg. Additionally, the sciatic nerve passes underneath (and in some people, through) the muscle, which can cause a condition referred to as “false sciatica”. Massage and stretching techniques can help loosen the piriformis, and provide relief to affected muscular down the leg.
